The base of the shell is 9 ply North American Red Oak, with an outer ply of Highly figured quilted cherry. Oak is a fairly hard species that consistently yields a powerful, focused, and bright sounding drum. Cherry is a medium-soft species that we put in the mix to help mellow the drum slightly and give it a warmer tone.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo continue the theme of balance in the tone and performance of the drum, we used a specialty hybrid bearing Edge that features a quarter inch radius roundover on the outside portion of the edge, with a small 45 degree counter cut on the inside. Where these two cuts meet the apex is softened by hand with fine grit sandpaper. We find that this edge allows maximum contact between the head and the shell which helps reduce extraneous overtones and increases stick feel and response of the drum.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFor the hardware on this drum we went with our signature HHG oil rubbed bronze single point lugs, and matching 2.3mm oil-rubbed bronze hoops.  A classic material that's been used in instrument building for decades.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe topped the drum off with all Evans heads, 30 strand snare wires, and our reimagined internal tone control mechanism with a matching cherry wood knob.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe are super excited to offer this instrument to help you find your sound and be a reliable tool in your musical tool belt.
