This exotic wood species comes from Africa and is renowned for its fantastic tonal characteristics. It is incredibly dense and hard, both qualities that lend themselves well to a fantastic sounding percussion instrument. There is absolutely no color added to this drum. The vibrant red and orange color of the shell is completely natural.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe sound of this drum is the exact sound I hear in my head when I'm looking for THAT snare drum sound. Articulate, crispy, and powerful- but works well in all dynamic ranges. I prefer it tuned up medium-high, but she also absolutely sings in a low to medium-low tuning due to the dark tonal characteristics of the padauk.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOur simple yet bulletproof internal tone control mechanism adds a fantastic degree of options to this drum. With no muffling applied whatsoever the drum has pleasant and warm tones but you can quickly switch to a very staccato sound with one simple turn of the knob.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI think it will be a star player in anybodys arsenal of snare drums.
