We made the steel shell for this drum in house. It is handmade using old world metal fabrication techniques.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe material in this drum is raw plate steel, that's 1\/8 of an inch thick. This is not your everyday normal steel snare drum. Almost all steel drums on the market are made from thin gauge steel sheet metal that is either rolled or spun into a cylinder. This thin sheet metal can make for an abrasive and unpleasant sound. By using a much thicker gauge of metal, we managed to capture the power and focus of a steel drum, while still being a warm and musical instrument.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe finish on this drum is a chemically applied oxide patina.
