hhg-drums-14x7-santos-mahogany-stave-triple-blue-blend-sparkle-lacquer
HHG Drums 14x7 Santos Mahogany Stave Triple Blue Blend Sparkle Lacquer

Any fans of blue sparkle lacquer out there?

This is a 14 X 7 Santos Mahogany Stave shell with ultra high gloss blue sparkle lacquer. I'm very proud of this drum for the simple fact that it started as a bit of a prototype, but ended up being one of the coolest drums I've built in a while.

The premise was to try and perfect spraying a high gloss Sparkle lacquer in house, something I've done many times before, but only as a partial additive to the overall finish. What I wanted to achieve here was a spectacular Sparkle color that Encompassed the entirety of the shell. The cool thing about spraying a metallic flake lacquer versus using a glass glitter wrap is that you can choose what the colors are rather than having that dictated to you by the wrap manufacturer. In this case, I used a triple blend of blue metallic flakes to create a sparkle that has nuances and layers of color. Included in the mix is a deep royal blue, an aquamarine blue, and a light baby blue. All of this is over a solid cobalt blue base coat.

The other thing I like about this drum is the sleeper car aspect. It looks like an unassuming, possibly even vintage drum from the exterior, but when you flip it over expecting to see a boring 10 ply Maple shell, you are immediately punched square in the dick by the 7/8" thick genuine mahogany Stave shell, oiled to Perfection as always, and radiating it's deep orange color all into your eye sockets. I love the idea of a classic and clean finish masking a beautifully crafted solid wood shell. It gives the drums layers of coolness.

As for the hardware, we went with our CNC-machined signature single point lugs, vintage style strainer, diecast butt plate, diecast air vent, a diecast antique silver HHG badge, 2.3 mm triple flanged hoops, an Evans G1 batter head and a hazy 300 snare side head, and 30 strand snare wires.

This drum also features our redesigned and improved internal temp control mechanism with a matching mahogany knob for that extra touch of class.

The bearing edges future 1/4 inch radius roundover router cut with a 45 degree intercut, the Apex where the two edges meet has been slightly rounded with gentle hand sanding to achieve perfect and even registration of the drum head to the Shell.

This is genuinely one of the coolest drums we've built at HHG in a long time. Not only does it look amazing, but it sounds fantastic, mahogany is always a wonderful species that can really serve as a Workhorse drum. It works super well tuned down really low with a little bit of internal muffling turned on to achieve that big fat 70s BackBeat sound, where you can disengage the internal tone control and crank it up for an absolutely blazing sound that will articulate every ghost note and punch right through the mix. I hope that you decide to add this drum to Your Arsenal today!
As with all of our drums and listings shown, when you place an order with HHG Drums, your new instrument will be hand-crafted in house, from scratch. The drum shown in the pictures was built for a customer, and now resides with them.
https://www.hhgdrums.com/products/hhg-drums-14x7-santos-mahogany-stave-triple-blue-blend-sparkle-lacquer
