HHG Drums 14x5.5 Aluminum Snare 2020 Galactic Purple Burst

Aluminum is slowly becoming one of our favorite materials to build drums out of. We have built tons and tons of drums from wood, and a couple of years ago we made an investment in tooling so that we can start producing our own metal drum shells. What you seeing in this listing is the fruits of these Investments. We start with raw 6061 aluminum plate. An aircraft grade aluminum alloy. We hand roll each and every shell, and also hand weld the seam. This rolled and welded technique makes for a drum shell that is incredibly strong, but also has wonderful resonance, brightness, and tone.

This particular drum was in attempt to make a fun departure from the seemingly endless and monotonous sea of aluminum snare drums with a boring standard aluminum finish.

The metal shell was abraded in a undulating and fluid pattern around the entire exterior of the surface, then, we applied a classy purple candy burst high gloss clear coat with teal metallic flake. The result was a finish it has all of the subtleties and depth of a beautiful figured wood, combined with the visual intrigue a brightly colored lowrider. We call it Galactic purple burst.

We wanted the drum to sound better than it looked so we topped it off with the most high-quality components. It features 5 mm no flange Hoops with vintage-style claws, our signature CNC machined HHG lugs, Puresound Custom-Pro snare wires, Evans heads top and bottom, a vintage style snare strainer, diecast butt plate, diecast air vent, and finally an antique silver diecast HHG badge.

The bearing edges on this drum are a full baseball bat round over. The aluminum is shaped with a combination of Milling machines, hand files, and sandpaper to achieve a perfectly round Edge that makes wonderful contact with the drumhead and shapes perfectly to the collar of the head.

The aluminum plate used in the Shell is 1\8" or 4mm thick, this is 10 times thicker than most spun aluminum snares available on the market which are made from a very thin gauge of sheet metal. The extra thickness of the shell allows for more body and volume while still maintaining the crispy and articulate nature of aluminum.

We set out to design a snare drum that was fun and classy, but also sounded amazing and could be used as an everyday Workhorse both in the studio and in live settings.
