I was shooting for opulence with this snare. Decadence. Like a t-bone steak with garlic butter and a four-finger glass of The Macallan 16.

I started with a 30 ply shell made from two classic tonewoods, maple and birch. They alternate throughout the shell, creating an ideal blend with the attack and focus of birch, and the depth and fatness of maple.

Then I started to have fun. The outer-ply is cocobolo, a rare central American wood species in the same genus as all rosewoods. It has an absolutely incredible grain- deep red and orange tones, with subtle black and dark brown striations. The veneer features an offset bookmatch for that classic fiddleback/rorshach pattern.

A veneer this opulent deserves a proper viewing lens, so I hit it with an ultra high gloss lacquer. I always take the time to wet sand, buff and polish the lacquer finishes that I hand apply. This is the only way to achieve an absolutely perfect mirror gloss finish that properly displays the beautiful wood underneath.

To continue the over-the-top theme on this snare drum, I decided to dress up the interior a bit as well. The entire inside of the drum has a super sexy black and gold Paisley graphic applied to it. I really love that moment when you look inside of a snare drum and see that someone cared enough to pay attention to how it looked on the inside as well as on the outside. A bit of a subtle touch, but absolutely worth it.

This snare features all of the high-end Hardware options you would need for an absolute workhorse of an instrument. Heavy duty 2.3 mm triple flanged Hoops, CNC machined single-point lugs, Ultra-smooth Inde strainer, heavy duty diecast butt plate and air vent, Evans Power Center batter head and hazy 300 snare head, 30 strand snare wires, and our reimagined internal tone control with a matching black walnut operation knob, and to top it all off an antique bronze diecast HHG badge.

My goal with this snare was to build an instrument that looked as good as it sounded. The combo ofÃÂÃÂÃÂèÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂý top notch materials and components, and a meticulous focus on detail managed to achieve just that. An instrument that is a treat for the eyes and ears, I genuinely hope you decide to make it yours.

As with all of our drums and listings shown, when you place an order with HHG Drums, your new instrument will be hand-crafted in house, from scratch. The drum shown in the pictures was built for a customer, and now resides with them.
