HHG drums 14x7 Ash Contoured Stave 2020 High Gloss Purple Burst

The contoured ash Stave snare drum is the flagship snare drum from hhg. We won Rhythm Magazine's 2018 best new snare drum in the world with this drum, and for good reason, it is a unique instrument with character and presence.

The basis for the strum is one of our handcrafted Steve shells. Constructed from solid wood, not plywood. It is comprised of individual precision-cut segments of North American white ash Lumber. These pieces of solid wood are joined together in a painstaking process using a minimal amount of glue which really allows the unique wood species to shine through in the tone of the instrument.

After all of the individual segments of Ash have been joined together, the shell is precision lathe into a perfect cylinder inside and outside. After that, the signature flowing Contours are hand lathed into the outside of the drum. These Contours are mainly for aesthetic purposes, giving the drum it's beautiful flowing and curvy look, while accentuating the depth of the Grain in the ash Lumber. There's also a minor Sonic benefit from The Contours in that the removal of Mass from the shell tends to dry out the sound of the drum a bit, and also lower its pitch naturally.

As with all of our drums and listings shown, when you place an order with HHG Drums, your new instrument will be hand-crafted in house, from scratch. The drum shown in the pictures was built for a customer, and now resides with them. We would love to build one for you!
