HHG Drums 16x5.5 Lignum Vitae Stave Snare Drum, Satin Oil

This drum was a joy to build, as we managed to get our hands on some outstanding exotic Lignum Vitae. The figuring contained within the wood just screamed "MAKE A DRUM OUT OF ME!!!", so that's what we did.

This is a stave construction design, with hand-cut staves patiently glued together and sanded into a perfect circle. The 14" x 5.5" size of this drum allows for a surprising amount of depth, tone, and clarity at lower tunings, while retaining that crispy pop that a drum of this depth has at mid and high tunings. The figuring on Lignum Vitae is always amazing, but with this example, it would have been a prosecutable crime to put any color on it at all, so we listened to our hearts and gave it a few coats of Satin Oil, allowing the natural design of Mother Nature to shine through.

We chose to dress this one up with some awesome chrome Agile Single Point lugs, a 3-position Trick strainer and buttplate, antique silver HHG diecast badging, die cast air vent, 2.3mm Triple-flanged hoops, and Puresound Pro snare wires.
